Gaza, May 18 (NationPress) At least 64 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, according to the Civil Defence in Gaza.

Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for the Civil Defence, informed Xinhua news agency on Saturday that seven young men were killed and multiple others injured when Israeli artillery targeted a group of Palestinians attempting to reach their homes in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, located east of Gaza City.

Basal further noted that four individuals, including a woman and two children, perished in an Israeli airstrike that struck the entrance of Salah al-Din School, which accommodates displaced families in the west of Gaza City. Another individual was killed in an airstrike on a residential building to the north of the city, as reported by Xinhua.

Additionally, at least 11 others were killed during assaults on a Palestinian gathering, while nine more lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike on a humanitarian aid distribution warehouse in Deir al-Balah, situated in central Gaza, according to Basal.

The Hamas-led Gaza government condemned the assault on the warehouse, deeming it a serious escalation of the ongoing starvation policies inflicted by the occupation in the Gaza Strip.

Another 13 individuals were reported dead in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, while 19 others were killed in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, Basal stated.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced early Saturday that they have commenced extensive strikes and mobilized troops to establish operational control in various regions of the Gaza Strip.

Since the escalation of military actions on March 18, at least 3,131 Palestinians have died and 8,632 have been injured, culminating in a total death toll in Gaza since the conflict erupted in October 2023 of 53,272, with 120,673 injured, as per the health authorities in Gaza.

The Gaza’s Government Media Office reported that over 200 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli assaults in just the last 48 hours, with around 1,000 housing units destroyed.

Additionally, approximately 140 victims remain entombed beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings due to the Israeli military's deliberate obstruction of ambulance and civil defense teams from accessing bombed locations in northern Gaza.
