Gaza, April 9 (NationPress) At least 29 Palestinians lost their lives and over 50 others sustained injuries on Wednesday due to an Israeli airstrike that struck a residential area in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, located east of Gaza City, according to Hamas.

Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for Gaza Civil Defence, informed Xinhua news agency that rescue teams are still on the lookout for survivors and bodies trapped beneath the debris.

Palestinian security sources indicated that the strike targeted eight neighboring homes, obliterating the entire area with multiple missiles.

The Israeli military has yet to comment on this incident.

This airstrike coincided with reports from health authorities in Gaza, stating that hospitals had admitted 36 bodies and 41 injured individuals in the last 24 hours.

As per Gaza-based health officials, the toll of Palestinians killed since Israel resumed military actions on March 18 has escalated to 1,482, with 3,688 injured.

In a separate event in the central Gaza Strip, two Palestinians were killed and one injured when Israeli forces targeted a residential home in Nuseirat, Basal reported.

To the south, an Israeli strike on a tent sheltering displaced individuals in Khan Younis resulted in the deaths of an elderly man and a woman, he added.

Gaza's Civil Defence has warned that numerous victims are still trapped under debris or stranded on the streets, inaccessible to emergency teams due to ongoing conflicts, as reported by Xinhua.

Earlier on April 3, an Israeli attack on the Dar Al-Arqam school, situated east of Gaza City, resulted in the deaths of at least 29 Palestinians and injuries to over 100 others, according to reports from Hamas-run Gaza media.

The office specified that among the fatalities were 18 children, women, and the elderly.

Moreover, Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defence, conveyed to Xinhua that the school had been accommodating displaced families seeking safety from relentless Israeli bombardment.

"The army targeted it while it was providing refuge to many displaced individuals," he stated, adding that emergency crews rushed to the location to recover bodies from the rubble and assist the injured amid the devastation.

Local residents reported that the Israeli army struck the school with three missiles.

"The explosion was colossal. Many were killed instantly, and others remain trapped under the rubble," remarked Mohammed Alaa, a local inhabitant.

Since the launch of the Israeli military campaign on October 7, 2023, Gaza health authorities report that a total of 50,846 Palestinians have been killed and 115,729 injured.
