New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) Chandra Arya, a Member of Parliament with Indian roots representing Nepean, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Prime Minister of Canada after submitting his nomination and addressing the House in Kannada.

Originally from Tumkur district in Karnataka, Arya completed his MBA in Dharwad before relocating to Canada.

This week, he made public his intention to run for the top political position in Canada.

Recently, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared his intention to step down but stated he would remain in office until a successor is chosen.

"Our nation is grappling with structural challenges that demand robust solutions. We must undertake bold political actions to ensure a prosperous future for our children and grandchildren," he expressed on the social media platform X on January 13.

Arya has criticized Khalistan supporters for their celebration of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and condemned the vandalism of Hindu temples across Canada. He has already declared his candidacy for the Liberal leadership, pledging to transform the nation into a "sovereign republic" through necessary political actions.

"I aspire to be the next Prime Minister of Canada to guide a streamlined and efficient government aimed at rebuilding our country and ensuring prosperity for future generations," Arya noted, with S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, labeling him a true advocate for India.

"We are confronting serious structural challenges not witnessed for generations, and resolving these issues will necessitate tough decisions. I have consistently worked for the benefit of Canadians, and for the sake of future generations, we must undertake essential bold actions. If I am elected as the next Leader of the Liberal Party, I offer my experience and knowledge to achieve this," his post declared.

Acknowledging the nation is facing a "perfect storm", Arya, who met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi last August, mentioned, "Many Canadians, especially the youth, are facing critical affordability challenges. Today, the working middle class is struggling, and numerous working families are retiring in poverty."

Arya views India as a vital and expanding market for Canada’s exports and investments, serving as a crucial source to meet "our essential talent requirements".

"Canada requires leadership that is willing to make significant decisions. Decisions that will revitalize our economy, restore hope, provide equal opportunities for all Canadians, and secure prosperity for our children and grandchildren. Bold political choices are not optional—they are imperative. With pragmatism and prudence as my guiding tenets, I am ready to embrace this responsibility and lead Canada as its next Prime Minister," he stated.
