Dhaka, Feb 12 (NationPress) As the voting process for the 13th Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh unfolds this Thursday, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) spokesperson Mahdi Amin highlighted the necessity of fostering robust relations with all nations, particularly those in the vicinity.
Bangladesh elections: BNP emphasizes strong relations with neighboring countries if it assumes power
Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role in nurturing a solid and dynamic Indo-Bangladesh relationship, Amin expressed to IANS, "For Bangladesh, it's crucial to establish positive relations with every nation, especially our neighbors. We aim for enhanced people-to-people connectivity and improved ties in trade, business, culture, education, healthcare, and more, while also fostering reciprocal relations grounded in justice, fairness, and equality."
When questioned about whether former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would pose a challenge in managing bilateral relations with India, the BNP leader stated, "The decision rests with the citizens of Bangladesh. Once the BNP forms a government, we will act in accordance with the people's desires. Our approach to bilateral relations will be shaped by public sentiment."
On the party's priorities if victorious in the elections, Amin underscored that enhancing the law and order in Bangladesh would be of utmost importance.
“We aspire to create a nation where every citizen is safeguarded and protected. Our law enforcement agencies must function with accountability, transparency, and uphold the true essence of rule of law, human rights, and freedom of expression,” he stated.
In response to a query regarding how a BNP government would protect minority Hindus if elected, Amin asserted that the party's ideological base emphasizes equal protection for all citizens, irrespective of their religion.
“The political philosophy of BNP is rooted in Bangladeshi nationalism, which advocates treating every individual equally, regardless of their faith or beliefs. This is a core principle of the BNP legacy, where we strive to ensure that every person, irrespective of religion, is fully safeguarded,” Amin told IANS.
Reflecting on the journey toward a better Bangladesh, Amin stated, "A beautiful Bangladesh is achievable only with a government that has a mandate from the people. A government dedicated to changing the country's landscape and genuinely committed to transforming the lives of its citizens. This requires good governance, where the elected government is accountable to the public."
As Bangladesh's crucial parliamentary elections proceed amidst rising political tensions and violence, various parties are voicing concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process.
