Dhaka, July 31 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh expressed strong disapproval of the recent brutal assault on the Hindu community in Gangachara, located in Rangpur district. This incident sheds light on the rampant lawlessness that has engulfed the nation under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
"With the backing of the despotic Yunus clique, communal terrorists have systematically executed these atrocious acts. The attack on the Hindu community in Gangachara Upazila is part of a larger trend of violence, oppression, and terror that is unimaginable in any civilized society governed by the rule of law," stated the Awami League in a press release.
"Since the unlawful takeover by the extremist and militant Yunus faction, there has been rampant oppression against Awami League leaders and supporters. This includes widespread violence, vandalism, theft, and arson targeting the Hindu community and other minorities," the statement continued.
The party condemned the despicable attack, asserting that "these illegal usurpers—the murderous Nazi Yunus group—openly support and shelter extremist communal terrorists."
"They are unlikely to deliver true justice. Instead, their protection of these extremists will perpetuate incidents of communal terror, as has been the case in the past," the Awami League remarked.
The party emphasized that under Yunus’s regime, members of the Hindu community feel extreme insecurity, almost as if they are exiles in their own country.
It noted that many individuals are compelled to leave their ancestral homes, while the "illegal, occupying, murderous Nazi Yunus group" remains unaccountable to the populace.
"Human life and dignity hold no significance for them. Therefore, we urge the citizens of this nation to unite against these extremist communal forces and their supporters. From your positions, foster mutual solidarity and take the initiative in creating a harmonious society," the Awami League stressed.
Earlier this week, the Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) raised alarms after violent mobs reportedly attacked, looted, and vandalized at least 21 homes belonging to Hindu families in Gangachara.
The human rights organization stated that the violence on July 27–28 was incited by a blasphemy allegation against a 17-year-old Hindu boy who is currently in police custody.
"A horrific outbreak of communal violence has forced numerous Hindu families to flee their homes in Gangachara after a 17-year-old boy was detained over a Facebook post allegedly insulting the Prophet of Islam. The retaliation was not a spontaneous reaction but an organized campaign of pillaging and terror," the HRCBM declared.
"Over two days, mobs ravaged the Hindu-majority area of Aldadpur village, attacking homes, stealing valuables, and instilling fear among residents. Local reports indicate that between 14 and 21 houses were assaulted. Eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic and violent, with law enforcement arriving too late or unable to manage the crowd," the statement added.
