BLA Reports Execution of Seven Captured Pakistani Soldiers Amid Rising Tensions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, March 3 (NationPress) The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) announced on Tuesday that it has executed seven Pakistani military personnel who were taken captive during 'Operation Herof II', following directives from the Senior Command Council, as reported by local media.
In an official statement, the BLA indicated that the seven military members connected to regular forces of Pakistan were condemned by the 'Baloch National Court' for their involvement in serious violations, including enforced disappearances, civilian abuses, and other offenses classified as war crimes, according to 'The Balochistan Post'.
The BLA had issued a seven-day ultimatum on February 14 for a potential prisoner swap, which was later extended to 14 days on humanitarian grounds. However, during this extended timeframe, the group concluded that the Pakistani military lacked genuine intent regarding the release of their personnel.
The statement suggested that initial discussions related to a possible prisoner exchange were merely a tactic to gain time for military maneuvers in the area, while Pakistani forces simultaneously engaged in operations involving gunship helicopters, drones, and substantial troop deployments, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
The BLA asserted that the Senior Command Council believed the humanitarian period was exploited to escalate hostilities and target Baloch fighters, stating that the continued deception indicated that the Pakistani military only comprehends the 'language of strength and action'.
The execution of the sentences against all seven detainees was carried out on Tuesday based on the ruling of the Baloch National Court. The BLA accused the high command of the Pakistani military of being responsible for the deaths of the seven military personnel, claiming it prioritized 'ego, military misadventures, and a culture of cunning' over the lives of its own troops.
In the previous month, the BLA claimed responsibility for a series of coordinated assaults throughout Balochistan, asserting that over 80 individuals lost their lives, including members of the Pakistani military, police forces, intelligence agencies, and counter-terrorism units. This offensive was characterized by the group as ‘Operation Herof Phase II’.
According to a statement from BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the coordinated strikes lasted nearly ten hours and spanned across multiple districts in Balochistan.
The operation targeted what the group identified as crucial security, military, and administrative installations.
The BLA claimed its operatives attacked locations in Quetta, Noshki, Mastung, Dalbandin, Kalat, and various other towns, all considered significant military and administrative centers of the Pakistani state, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
In its statement, the BLA alleged that at least 84 security personnel from Pakistan were killed during the operation, with many others wounded. The group also claimed that 18 security members were captured during the assaults.
Furthermore, the militant organization asserted that more than 30 government assets were either seized or destroyed, including government offices, banks, and prisons. Additionally, the group claimed that over 20 vehicles were set ablaze as part of the coordinated offensive.
The BLA contended that its fighters managed to temporarily disrupt the movement of Pakistani security forces in several regions, claiming control over certain areas for limited durations during the operation.
