BNM Leader Accuses Pakistani Forces of State Terrorism After 12 Civilians Killed
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, April 18 (NationPress) Naseem Baloch, the leader of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), stated on Saturday that the horrific slaying of 12 members of one family in the Barkhan district of Balochistan is indicative of the "ongoing and unchecked" violence perpetrated by the Pakistani military against innocent Baloch civilians.
These comments were made following an incident on April 13, when a total of 12 civilians, including women and children, lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries due to bombardment and shelling by the Pakistani military in Barkhan, igniting widespread outrage.
Denouncing the killings, Naseem remarked, "This is not merely an isolated event; it is part of the systematic oppression that the Baloch people have suffered for the last seventy-eight years. This clear act of state terrorism involved the deliberate targeting and killing of unarmed civilians."
He elaborated that a nomadic Marri family, migrating along the Nahar Kot Road in the area, was directly attacked by Pakistani forces.
"They were vulnerable, impoverished nomads, and their only 'offense' was their identity," Naseem commented.
He described the assault as a tragic chapter in the ongoing Baloch genocide, asserting, "This incident will be forever etched in the collective memory of the Baloch people and will serve as a reckoning for the occupier."
The Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Balochistan, calling for urgent international intervention.
The rights organization condemned the bombardment and indiscriminate shelling carried out by Pakistani security forces in Barkhan, stating, "The sustained use of force against civilians represents a pattern of abuse that can no longer be overlooked."
The HRCB reported that from January 2025 to February 2026, 83 civilians were killed due to strikes and random gunfire by security forces, highlighting a "persistent and alarming trend of violence."
The organization emphasized that Pakistani authorities must be held accountable for decades of violations that have repeatedly cost lives and stripped people of their fundamental rights.
"Continued silence and inaction only perpetuate these abuses, leaving Baloch civilians vulnerable to violence, fear, and lasting trauma without any protection," it noted.
