Cairo, April 18 (NationPress) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Slovenia's Parliamentary Speaker Urska Klakocar Zupancic have reiterated their stance against the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and their endorsement of establishing a Palestinian state as the sole pathway to enduring regional peace.

During discussions in Cairo with Zupancic, Sisi stated on Thursday that the formation of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains "the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region," as per a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Sisi also updated the Slovenian official on Egypt's initiatives to mediate a renewed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, aid in the exchange of hostages and detainees, and ensure a steady flow of humanitarian assistance to alleviate the escalating crisis in the enclave, according to Xinhua news agency.

The Egyptian leader welcomed Slovenia's acknowledgment of a Palestinian state, labeling it as Slovenia's position "in support of the rights of the Palestinian people".

Zupancic, who is on an official visit to Egypt, expressed her country's disapproval of the displacement of Palestinians and praised Egypt's role in maintaining regional security, according to the Egyptian statement.

She also articulated Slovenia's desire to enhance cooperation and coordination with Egypt across various multilateral platforms.

Zupancic commended Egypt’s leading role and unwavering efforts to secure stability in the Middle East.

She reaffirmed Slovenia's commitment to intensifying dialogue and collaboration with Egypt on shared interests and in international forums.

Slovenia had previously condemned US President Donald Trump's proposal to appropriate Gaza and displace Palestinians from their land as "unacceptable".

It also criticized Israel's obstruction of humanitarian aid access to the war-torn strip.

In March, Egypt introduced a multi-phase reconstruction plan for Gaza to counter Trump's initiative and avert the depopulation of Gaza, preventing it from becoming a "Middle Eastern Riviera". This plan has garnered unanimous support from 22 Arab nations.

Furthermore, the meeting explored avenues to fortify Egyptian-Slovenian relations, with El-Sisi praising the recent enhancement of bilateral ties.

The Egyptian President also highlighted the roles of both nations' parliaments in fostering economic, trade, and investment collaborations.

Slovenia officially recognized the State of Palestine on June 4, 2024, as part of a broader initiative by several European nations to coordinate pressure on Israel to help conclude the conflict in Gaza.
