District police spokesperson Qudratullah stated that the attack was executed by 'Fitna-al-Khawarij' targeting the Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan stretch of the Peshawar-Karachi Indus Highway. The term 'Fitna al Khawarij' is used in Pakistan to refer to terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to officials, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated from a motorcycle parked along the road, resulting in a loud explosion aimed at a police patrol from the Shahbazkhel police station.
The police spokesperson confirmed that one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and four constables were injured in the blast, which also caused damage to their patrol vehicle. The injured personnel were promptly transported to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical care.
