Islamabad, March 3 (NationPress) Combat-related fatalities in Pakistan saw a staggering 30% increase in February, primarily attributed to a surge in suicide attacks nationwide, as per statistics from a think tank based in Islamabad, local media has reported.

A study conducted by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicated that there were 470 fatalities and 333 injuries recorded in February. Among the victims, 96 civilians, 80 security personnel, and 294 militants were identified. The injured included 259 civilians, 50 security forces, and 24 militants, according to Pakistan's prominent daily, Dawn.

This data reveals a remarkable 74% rise in deaths among security personnel, a 32% increase in civilian fatalities, and a 21% surge in militant deaths compared to January.

There was a notable escalation of violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its integrated districts (previously Federally Administered Tribal Areas). In February alone, 53 security personnel and six civilians lost their lives, while 35 security forces and 48 civilians sustained injuries in the region. Three suicide bombings occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in 17 fatalities, including the deaths of 14 security personnel and injuring 20 others.

A tragic suicide bombing in Islamabad led to 34 deaths and left 165 individuals injured. Additionally, a separate suicide attack in the Bhakkar district of Punjab province resulted in the death of two police officers and injuries to four others. The eight suicide incidents reported in January and February of this year account for nearly half of the total recorded for all of 2025, which was 17 incidents.

According to the statistics from PICSS, the first two months of 2026 have seen 831 combat-related fatalities, comprising 536 militants, 169 civilians, and 126 security forces, as reported by Dawn.

Recently, an explosion near the Miryan Police Station in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the death of two individuals and left 14 injured on Monday.

According to police statements, the explosion was triggered by explosive materials planted on a motorcycle. Among the deceased was a child, as reported by Dawn.

Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene to transport the casualties to local hospitals, as per officials from Rescue 1122.

The explosion occurred near shops in front of the police station, although police personnel were unharmed. Unfortunately, several civilians in the vicinity were affected, with some injuries reported to be critical.

In response to the incident, a robust police presence, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), Quick Response Force (QRF), and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), was deployed to the site, as reported by Dawn.

Police and security forces cordoned off the area to initiate a search operation. An investigation is underway, with efforts focused on gathering evidence.
