New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) - A number of Foreign Ministers from various nations have reached New Delhi on Friday to participate in the second India–Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting (IAFMM), which is set for Saturday.

The Foreign Ministers of Libya, Eltaher S M Elbaour, and Somalia, Abdisalam Ali, have arrived in the capital.

In a welcoming gesture for the Libyan Foreign Minister, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted on X, stating, “His involvement in the India-Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting (IAFMM) and activities in New Delhi will create positive momentum for advancing our bilateral relations.”

The MEA also warmly welcomed the Somali Foreign Minister, noting, “His visit will further enhance the friendly bilateral relations between India and Somalia.”

On Thursday, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS), arrived in New Delhi for the second IAFMM and associated meetings.

The MEA extended a cordial welcome to Gheit, an esteemed Egyptian politician and diplomat.

“We are pleased to welcome H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, who has come to New Delhi for the 2nd India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ and related meetings. The high-level engagements over the coming two days demonstrate our mutual commitment to strengthening the India-Arab partnership across various sectors,” MEA announced on X.

Previously, the Foreign Minister of Comoros, Mbae Mohamed, the Foreign Minister of Palestine, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, and the Foreign Minister of Sudan, Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim, also arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for the second IAFMM.

India is poised to host the second IAFMM on Saturday, with participation from Foreign Ministers representing other Arab League member states and the Arab League Secretary General.

The IAFMM will be preceded by the 4th India-Arab Senior Officials’ Meeting on Friday.

This second India-Arab Foreign Ministers Meeting is anticipated to build upon existing collaborations and broaden the partnership.

The meeting is notable as it occurs a decade after the first meeting held in Bahrain in 2016, where leaders identified five key areas of cooperation: economy, energy, education, media, and culture, proposing a range of activities across these sectors.

“The India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting serves as the highest institutional mechanism promoting this partnership, formalized in March 2002 when India and the League of Arab States (LAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding institutionalizing the dialogue process,” the MEA remarked.
