New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, has arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to participate in the second India–Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting (IAFMM).
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) warmly welcomed the UAE official, stating on X: “His visit will further bolster the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE.
On Friday, several Foreign Ministers arrived in New Delhi, including Libya's Eltaher S M Elbaour, Somalia's Abdisalam Ali, and Qatar's Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, to join the IAFMM.
The MEA expressed appreciation for the delegates' presence, emphasizing that their visit would enhance the bilateral partnerships between India and their respective nations.
On Friday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met with the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
After their discussions, EAM Jaishankar tweeted on X, “A productive meeting with Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit this morning. We had an extensive conversation about enhancing our cooperation across multiple domains and exchanged thoughts on recent regional developments.”
EAM Jaishankar also held meetings with Foreign Ministers from Comoros, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Palestine to discuss boosting bilateral ties.
The IAFMM is set to take place on Saturday, hosted by India and the UAE, with participation from Foreign Ministers of other Arab League Member States and the Arab League Secretary General.
Preceding the meeting, the 4th India-Arab Senior Officials’ Meeting was held on Friday.
This second meeting aims to build upon existing collaborations and expand partnerships.
The Foreign Ministers' meeting is significant as it occurs a decade after the first meeting in Bahrain in 2016, during which five priority areas of cooperation were identified: economy, energy, education, media, and culture.
The MEA noted, “The India Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting serves as the highest institutional mechanism driving this partnership, formalized in March 2002 when India and the League of Arab States (LAS) signed an MoU to institutionalize dialogue.”
