Former Senior Legislator from China Prosecutes for Corruption and Misuse of Authority

Beijing, Dec 16 (NationPress) A public prosecution has been launched against Su Zengtian, who previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People's Congress, on allegations of bribery and abuse of power.

Following the designation by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), the Ningbo Municipal People's Procuratorate in eastern China's Zhejiang Province recently submitted a lawsuit against Su to the Intermediate People's Court of Ningbo, as stated in an SPP announcement released on Monday.

This lawsuit is the result of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision into Su's alleged wrongdoing, according to reports from Xinhua.

Su is accused of misusing his official capacity in Fujian to provide benefits to others and unlawfully accepting significant bribes in both cash and valuable items.

Even after his tenure in public office, he reportedly exploited his previous roles to acquire improper benefits for others via government personnel, while continuing to receive large sums of money and valuables.

The indictment also claims that Su misused his authority as a public official, leading to considerable losses of public assets.

Additionally, Wu Cunrong, the Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, is currently under investigation for serious breaches of Party discipline and legal regulations, as stated in an official announcement on Monday.

This investigation is being carried out by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, as per the official statement.

In October, Peng Guofu, a former senior legislator from central China's Hunan Province, was indicted on charges of suspected bribery.

Prosecutors alleged that Peng, who was formerly the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, exploited his official positions to assist others while accepting vast amounts of money and property in exchange.

After the completion of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision, designated by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), a procuratorate in Hainan Province has filed a lawsuit against Peng with the intermediate people's court.
