Aden, April 26 (NationPress) The Houthi group asserted that US warplanes have carried out 1200 airstrikes on Yemen since mid-March, leading to numerous civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure.
In a statement to the press, the group's foreign affairs authority accused the US operations of devastating "many civilian structures, including residential areas, ports, medical facilities, water tanks, and historical sites, in blatant violation of both international law and humanitarian standards."
The group charged that Washington is making "desperate attempts to dodge its responsibility for the atrocities it is committing in Yemen" and is "endeavoring to obscure its wrongdoings against Yemeni civilians."
The US government has yet to provide an immediate response to these claims, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
The United States resumed military actions against Yemen on March 15 after President Donald Trump directed "decisive and potent military action" against Houthi forces. Trump later guaranteed that strikes would persist until the group no longer threatens the "freedom of navigation."
On April 22, the Houthis announced that they had downed a US MQ-9 drone in the northwestern province of Hajjah and initiated new strikes against two US aircraft carriers.
"We brought down a hostile American MQ-9 drone while it was conducting aggressive operations in the airspace of Hajjah province," stated Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea in a televised announcement on Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
He added, "The drone was downed using a locally developed surface-to-air missile," further noting, "This was the seventh drone we have shot down this April and the 22nd since November 2023."
Sarea also revealed that the group had executed new strikes targeting two US aircraft carriers, which have been executing airstrikes against Houthi positions in northern Yemen since mid-March.
"We conducted two military actions aimed at the American aircraft carriers: the USS S. Harry Truman and the USS Carl Vinson, along with their accompanying warships in the Red and Arabian Seas, using cruise missiles and drones," Sarea stated.
This conflict unfolds amid persistent regional tensions, with the Houthis claiming their actions are in support of Palestinians in Gaza. Despite these threats, reports indicate that the Houthis have intensified their assaults on Israel and on US naval forces and drones active in the Red Sea.
