Aden, April 10 (NationPress) Three children lost their lives on Thursday when a Houthi drone hit a civilian residence in Yemen's Red Sea province of Hodeidah, according to a local government official who spoke to Xinhua news agency.

The anonymous source confirmed that the drone was fired by Houthi forces but failed to reach its intended target, instead striking a home in the Hays district of Hodeidah.

“The drone strike resulted in the deaths of three children from the same family, while two others sustained injuries,” stated the official.

No statement has been released by the Houthi group regarding this incident.

This Yemen-based militia has been engaged in conflict with the government since 2014 and controls a significant portion of northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa.

Despite the Houthis' dominance in Hodeidah, the Hays district remains one of the few areas in the province still under governmental authority.

Hodeidah has experienced a fragile ceasefire between government forces and the Houthi militia, despite a UN-brokered truce established in December 2018 in Stockholm.

On April 9, the Vice President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Tariq Saleh, called on the international community to enhance support for the Yemeni government in countering threats from the Houthi militias.

During a videoconference with US Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, Saleh discussed various topics of mutual interest, including “the ongoing American military campaign aimed at undermining the terrorist Houthi militias and deterring their threats to navigation,” as per a statement from Saleh's office.

Saleh cautioned that Yemen remains a “platform for activities by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps,” emphasizing the necessity for the international community to convert its awareness of this threat into substantial backing for the legitimate Yemeni government.

“To eliminate the threats from Iran's proxies in Yemen (the Houthi group), strong international support for the Yemeni government is essential to restore the state,” Saleh asserted.

Fagin, for his part, reiterated the US commitment to supporting the PLC, stating that the US would persist in its efforts to diminish the Houthis' military capabilities until they stop threatening maritime security in the Red Sea.

The US diplomat also highlighted the importance of consolidating efforts to tackle the security and humanitarian issues facing Yemen, according to the statement.
