Sanaa, Jan 17 (NationPress) The leader of Yemen's Houthi group, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, announced that his faction will persist in its assaults on Israel if the bombings in Gaza do not cease. “Our military operations will continue in support of the Palestinian people if the Israeli enemy continues its genocidal massacres and escalation before implementing the ceasefire agreement,” al-Houthi stated during a televised address broadcasted by the Houthi-operated al-Masirah satellite TV channel.
“We will keep an open eye on the stages of implementing the ceasefire agreement (in Gaza), and if Israel makes any breach or massacre at any phase of implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, we will be ready immediately for conducting military support for the Palestinian people,” the Houthi leader asserted.
“The United States is working to end Hamas's role in the future, but it will fail,” he added.
According to reports from the Xinhua news agency, the Houthi leader revealed that his group has executed “1255 attacks” targeting Israeli cities, vessels linked to Israel, and U.S. warships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November 2023, shortly after the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
He also emphasized that his group “will be ready” for any significant war against Israel and the U.S. in the near future.
After almost 15 months of conflict in Gaza, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is set to commence on Sunday.
The Houthi group has maintained control over significant portions of northern Yemen since late 2014 after expelling the internationally recognized Yemeni government from the capital, Sanaa.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have been executing rocket and drone strikes on Israel while disrupting “Israeli-linked” shipping in the Red Sea, showcasing their solidarity with the Palestinians amid the ongoing Israeli conflict.
In retaliation, Israel has launched successive airstrikes targeting Houthi positions. Furthermore, the U.S.-led naval coalition in the region has been conducting regular air raids and strikes on Houthi sites since January 2024 as part of a joint effort to deter the armed group, leading the Houthis to extend their attacks to U.S. warships.
