Aden, March 26 (NationPress) Yemen's Houthi militants declared that the persistent US military strikes will not hinder their efforts to support Gaza, as tensions in the Red Sea region continue to rise.
In a televised speech on Tuesday night, commemorating "National Resilience Day" and the tenth anniversary of the Saudi-led coalition's initial airstrikes, Mahdi Al Mashat, the chairman of the Houthis' Supreme Political Council, conveyed a bold message challenging the current US military operations in Yemen.
Al Mashat specifically addressed US President Donald Trump, claiming that "the entirety of your presidential term would be inadequate to dissuade us".
He stated, "Your decision to attack our nation will not succeed in stopping our operations supporting Gaza."
Al Mashat condemned US foreign policy, labeling the military actions against Yemen as "reckless" and devoid of legitimacy. He urged the global community to take a unified stand against what he termed "American aggression" and "Zionist crimes".
The Houthi leader highlighted the group's readiness to respond to possible attacks, asserting they have various strategies to safeguard their territorial integrity.
Houthi-controlled media reported that US warplanes executed 17 airstrikes within the last 24 hours, targeting their positions in Saada and Amran provinces in northern Yemen. The Houthis claimed these strikes caused significant damage to civilian properties, although specific casualty figures were not disclosed, according to Xinhua news agency.
In mid-March, Trump ordered the US military to initiate "decisive and powerful military action" against the Houthi militia, following the militia's announcement to resume attacks on Israeli vessels in the Red Sea, citing Israel's blockade of aid to the Gaza Strip.
On Wednesday, the Houthis announced they had conducted new strikes on a US aircraft carrier in the Red Sea and targeted "military sites" in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea stated, "Our forces launched missile and drone attacks recently, targeting American warships in the Red Sea, including the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, from which the aggression against our country is initiated," in a statement broadcast by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
"The confrontation and engagement persisted for several hours," he continued, pledging to confront the ongoing US airstrikes on Houthi-held territories in northern Yemen.
As of now, there has been no response from the US military.
