Hungarian Prime Minister Proposes Varga for Central Bank Leadership

Budapest, Nov 30 (NationPress) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has proposed Finance Minister Mihaly Varga as the upcoming governor of the National Bank of Hungary (MNB). This announcement was made during Orban's routine Friday morning session on public radio Kossuth, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The nomination has been forwarded to parliament for endorsement.
"We will operate under a new economic governance structure starting January 1," Orban stated, adding that further details about the framework will be provided in December.
Varga expressed his gratitude for the nomination in a post on Facebook, describing it as a privilege. "I will persist in my efforts to support the stability and prosperity of Hungary with my future contributions," he mentioned.
Varga has previously held various high-ranking roles, including that of finance minister since 2018 and economy minister prior to that.
This nomination arrives as Gyorgy Matolcsy's term as MNB governor, which began in 2013, nears its conclusion.
