Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, March 27 (NationPress) India's pragmatic and balanced strategy in the shifting geopolitical landscape of the Middle East is poised to strengthen its strategic alliance with Israel. A report from the US-based think tank, 'Middle East Forum', indicates that India's collaboration with Israel has matured over the last thirty years, evolving from minimal diplomatic engagement into a solid partnership focused on security and technology.
Shared concerns regarding terrorism, regional instability, and various security challenges have catalyzed a closer bond between these nations.
According to the report, “For India, Israel has proven to be a trustworthy defense and technology partner, while New Delhi has simultaneously nurtured strong relations with Arab nations as part of its comprehensive Middle East strategy.”
The report emphasizes that the partnership has broadened over time to encompass “intelligence sharing, missile systems, surveillance technologies, and counterterrorism efforts.”
With Israel's leadership in defense innovation, cybersecurity, and advanced military technology, it has become an essential ally.
Furthermore, the 2025 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding joint development and co-production signifies a significant milestone in the bilateral partnership.
The report elaborates, “This transition signals converging strategic interests. For Israel, working with India diversifies its alliances and mitigates risks in an unpredictable regional context. For India, it aligns with the goal of reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and bolstering domestic defense capabilities through initiatives like 'Make in India'.”
“Co-production and technology transfer have thus emerged as central tenets of this relationship, positioning Israel as one of India’s most crucial defense partners. Intelligence collaboration, counterterrorism strategies, and border security technologies have also become vital components as both nations confront significant external threats,” it further noted.
Over the past decade, India has also intensified its collaboration with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and other regional entities in areas such as trade, investment, energy, and security. Several Gulf Arab nations have honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with their highest civilian accolades for his efforts in enhancing bilateral relations.
Highlighting the Indian government’s enthusiastic approach to relations with Israel, the report quotes External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stating, “Israel is a nation with which we have a strong history of cooperation in national security. It has consistently supported us during critical times when our national security was threatened.”
