The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto held discussions with McClay, leading to a consensus on ramping up the execution of the Indonesia-New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership Plan of Action 2025-2029. This initiative aims to deepen mutually advantageous collaboration, particularly in trade and investment, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency.
Both ministers highlighted the necessity of addressing ongoing disputes concerning the importation of horticultural products, animals, and animal products, which are currently being deliberated at the World Trade Organisation.
“Resolving these issues would enable both nations to direct their attention to other critical areas for enhancing economic cooperation. Indonesia also encourages New Zealand to broaden its investments in the dairy processing sector, contributing to food security and sustainable public nutrition,” Hartarto mentioned in the statement.
In response, McClay confirmed that New Zealand enterprises possess the capabilities and readiness to sustainably fulfill these requirements.
Reiterating their mutual commitment to bolstering trade relations, Indonesia and New Zealand established a new bilateral trade target of 6 billion New Zealand dollars by 2029, an increase from the previous goal of 4 billion New Zealand dollars by 2024.
These revised targets are detailed in the Indonesia-New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership Plan of Action 2025-2029.
New Zealand enjoys a robust relationship with Indonesia, celebrating 65 years of diplomatic ties in 2023, as noted in a statement from New Zealand Foreign Affairs and Trade. Indonesia is a significant Indo-Pacific partner for New Zealand, crucial for its prosperity and security.
According to the statement, Indonesia is also vital for New Zealand in addressing transnational organized crime, including terrorism, people smuggling, and illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. New Zealand maintains a Comprehensive Partnership with Indonesia and a renewed Plan of Action (2025-2029) comprising six pillars.
