United Nations, March 11 (NationPress) Over 1,300 civilians have lost their lives and 9,669 civilian locations have been annihilated in Iran due to military actions initiated by the United States and Israel since February 28, as stated by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.
The civilian locations include 7,943 residential buildings, 1,617 commercial and service establishments, 32 healthcare and pharmaceutical centers, 65 educational facilities, 13 Red Crescent properties, and various energy supply installations, Iravani informed the media during a press briefing on Tuesday.
"They are intentionally and indiscriminately attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure throughout my nation. They exhibit total disregard for international law and show no hesitation in committing these atrocities," he asserted.
"Heavily populated residential zones and essential civilian infrastructure are being specifically targeted," he added, noting that these figures keep escalating as US-Israeli military offensives persist.
Iravani detailed numerous cases of civilian-targeted assaults, such as intense strikes on fuel storage facilities in Tehran and other cities on Saturday night, releasing significant amounts of harmful and toxic substances into the air.
The blasts have led to severe air contamination and posed significant health hazards for the populace, particularly children, women, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health issues, he remarked, citing the Iranian Red Crescent Society, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
"These barbaric strikes also breach international environmental laws, including obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity," he stated.
Iravani also pointed out attacks on Mehrabad Airport in Tehran early Saturday morning, which resulted in damage to several civilian aircraft and airport facilities, alongside assaults on a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province, which interrupted water supplies to 30 villages.
Furthermore, he asserted that in the early hours of Sunday, Israel executed "a calculated terrorist strike" against the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, Lebanon, claiming the lives of four Iranian diplomats. "The targeted elimination of diplomats within the borders of another sovereign nation constitutes a serious act of terrorism, a war crime, and a blatant infringement of international law," he declared.
"The global community must intervene immediately to halt this brutal conflict against the Iranian populace. We will adopt all necessary measures to protect our people, our land, and our sovereignty," he concluded.
