Israel Eases Restrictions Following Lebanon Ceasefire
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jerusalem, April 17 (NationPress) – The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) issued a statement on Friday announcing the removal of the majority of gathering limitations implemented during the conflict on the Iranian and Lebanese fronts.
The decision to lift these restrictions coincides with the initiation of a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Effective from 4 PM Israeli time (1300 GMT), the new regulations permit gatherings without limits on the number of attendees in most regions of the country. However, areas close to the northern border with Lebanon will still be subject to a gathering cap of 1,000 people until Saturday evening.
This adjustment will facilitate educational, cultural, and sporting events nationwide without any restrictions, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon commenced at midnight between Thursday and Friday local time (2100 GMT) following an earlier announcement from US President Donald Trump. This truce seeks to halt over a month of intense conflict, which has resulted in more than 2,000 fatalities.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated on Friday that Israeli forces will maintain control over all areas they have “cleared and seized” in Lebanon, emphasizing that military actions against Hezbollah are ongoing, despite the ceasefire's implementation.
“The Israel Defence Forces will continue to secure all areas that have been cleared and captured,” Katz noted in his statement, asserting that ground operations and airstrikes throughout Lebanon have produced significant outcomes but are not yet fully concluded.
He reiterated that the disarmament of Hezbollah, either through military or political avenues, remains a key objective of this campaign.
Previously, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee cautioned southern Lebanese residents against returning to the territories south of the Litani River via a post on the social media platform X, pointing out the persistent Israeli military presence due to Hezbollah's activities.
Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel will enforce a 10-km security buffer in southern Lebanon during the ceasefire.
