Israel Unveils Its First Wave Energy Power Plant

Jerusalem, Dec 16 (NationPress) Israel has officially launched its inaugural power plant that harnesses the energy of sea waves, according to a statement from Israel's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

Situated at Jaffa Port in the Mediterranean city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, this power facility boasts an installed capacity of 100 kilowatts. It was developed by the Israeli energy firm Eco Wave Power, in partnership with the French state-owned electricity provider EDF and the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, with financing from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

This installation features 10 buoys placed along the breakwater at Jaffa Port, each linked to a patented energy conversion unit that facilitates streamlined operation and maintenance.

The buoys move with the waves, activating a hydraulic motor and generator stationed onshore. This system is capable of producing electricity from waves as minimal as 60 cm in height.

Equipped with an advanced control system, the technology elevates the buoys above the water's surface during storms to avert damage.

All electricity generated by this initiative is fed into Israel's national grid, with the state-owned Israel Electric Corporation acquiring all the energy produced by this facility.

The ministry emphasized that this project represents a significant move towards enhancing energy production from renewable sources, diminishing air pollution, and bolstering Israel's energy security.
