Jharkhand: Pioneering Floating Solar Panels Set to Energize Koderma and Surrounding Areas

Koderma (Jharkhand), Dec 28 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative for Jharkhand, a 'floating solar plant' is under construction in the Koderma district, aimed at supplying solar power to the city and numerous other districts within the state.

This innovative floating solar plant is designed to have a capacity of 6 Megawatts (MW) and is being established at the Koderma Thermal Power Plant, with operations set to begin shortly.

This initiative is viewed as a revolutionary step for the efficient use of resources and the enhancement of renewable energy, attracting considerable attention.

According to Manoj Thakur, who is managing the project at Koderma Thermal Power Station, a strategic choice was made to construct a ‘floating solar plant’ within the plant's reservoir.

“We have commenced the production of 10 MW of electricity from solar panels already installed at Koderma Thermal Power Plant, while the floating solar facility with a 6 MW capacity is currently under development in the reservoir. Furthermore, a specialized agency has been assigned to oversee the 155 MW floating power plant at Tilaiya Dam,” he stated.

The solar panels are being set up over an area of approximately 24 acres across two ponds constructed within the plant's premises for the floating power plant.

Prince Tiwari, responsible for site inspections, noted that the floating plant offers several benefits, as it utilizes the water reservoir for renewable energy generation while also aiding in maintaining water quality.

When questioned about the potential effects on local fishermen, he dismissed the concerns, suggesting that the project would actually benefit them by promoting ‘cage fishing’.

In the near future, it is anticipated that around 171 MW of electricity will be produced from solar energy plants, signaling a promising new chapter in the state’s solar energy production.

It is important to mention that the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and the National Thermal Power Centre (NTPC) have joined forces to transform Tilaiya Dam in Koderma into a Green Valley, focusing on the advancement of renewable energy generation.
