Amman, April 15 (NationPress) King Abdullah II of Jordan and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto have denounced Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, highlighting attempts to divide it both temporally and spatially, as per a statement from Jordan's Royal Court.
During their discussions in Amman, the capital city of Jordan, both leaders cautioned against any efforts to change the historical and legal status at the revered sites of Jerusalem. The King reiterated Jordan's role as the custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, according to a report by Xinhua.
On Monday, hundreds of Israelis entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a sacred location for both Muslims and Jews in East Jerusalem, performing religious rituals in observance of the Jewish Passover holiday.
While non-Muslim visitors can access the compound under current arrangements, they are prohibited from praying there. This incident marks another chapter in a series of clashes between Muslims and Jews, which have consistently challenged the delicate status quo at this holy site.
The leaders also deliberated on strategies to conclude the conflict in the Gaza Strip, restore the ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and bolster Palestinian resilience on their land. They stressed the necessity of establishing a political framework to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
Subianto underscored the long-standing friendship between Jordan and Indonesia, expressing his nation's solidarity with Jordan in advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people to sovereignty and the formation of their own state.
The discussions also covered the expansion of collaboration in sectors including defense, education, agriculture, and religion.
Subianto arrived in Jordan on Sunday for a two-day visit after his trip to Qatar.
