New Delhi, Dec 9 (NationPress) Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh is set to represent India at the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) taking place in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
In a statement on X, Singh highlighted that UNEA serves as the world’s premier decision-making body under the United Nations dedicated to environmental issues.
“I am departing for Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to proudly represent India at the seventh session of UNEA-7. This assembly is the highest-level decision-making entity of the UN concerning environmental challenges. Currently, it comprises 193 countries that convene biennially to discuss pressing environmental issues,” Singh stated on X.
“The global community is currently facing critical crises like climate change and biodiversity loss, necessitating collective action more than ever. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, initiatives such as Ganga Rejuvenation, Mission LiFE Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and the Swachh Bharat Mission have become exemplary models for the world. Protecting our environment is not merely an option; it is vital for our existence. We must all dedicate ourselves to building a sustainable planet, aligned with India’s Mission LiFE vision,” he added.
The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) is convened at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters in Nairobi from December 8-12.
The official statement declared, “The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) is the highest-level decision-making body for environmental matters globally, consisting of all 193 Member States.”
“It establishes the global environmental agenda, offers overarching policy guidance, and formulates responses to emerging environmental challenges. The assembly also engages in policy review, dialogue, and experience sharing while providing strategic direction for the future of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and fostering partnerships to achieve environmental objectives and mobilize resources,” it concluded.
