Maldives Intercepts $84 Million Worth of Narcotics in 2024

Colombo, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Maldivian administration has significantly enhanced its initiatives to tackle drug trafficking, with President Mohamed Muizzu announcing that the quantity of drugs confiscated this year has increased six times compared to 2023. The current year has seen drugs with an estimated street value of approximately $84 million being seized.
Furthermore, the President revealed that over 150 foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking have been expelled this year, which is double the number from 2023, as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing state-owned Public Service Media.
In his address, the President stated that law enforcement authorities have executed raids on more than 13,435 establishments this year as part of a comprehensive campaign against trafficking, in contrast to around 8,500 raids conducted last year.
