Israel destroys 2 km Hezbollah tunnel in Lebanon with 450 tonnes of explosives

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, 28 April announced that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had destroyed a massive Hezbollah terror tunnel in Qantara, southern Lebanon — the most significant underground route uncovered in Lebanon so far. The tunnel, stretching over 2 kilometres and reaching depths of up to 25 metres, was demolished using 450 tonnes of explosives.

Key Details of the Tunnel

According to the IDF, the tunnel was carved into rocky granite bedrock and featured 30 shafts leading into it, running along two separate axes. Inside, investigators found 30 living rooms, showers, decorated corridors bearing pictures of leaders of the ayatollah regime, and furnished lamps — indicating long-term, habitual use by operatives.

The IDF stated that the tunnel was built with Iranian funding over nearly a decade and was used by hundreds of Hezbollah terrorists from Radwan Force. A large arsenal of weapons was also recovered from within the tunnel complex.
