Moscow, Aug 19 (NationPress) Russia has urged the UK government to refrain from actions that could jeopardize the collaborative efforts between Russia and the US to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, according to Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“In light of the genuine commitment shown by the Russian and US leadership in Anchorage toward achieving a comprehensive, equitable, and lasting resolution to the Ukraine crisis, including addressing its fundamental causes, statements from London continue to emerge that not only contradict the endeavors of Moscow and Washington but are also clearly intended to undermine them,” the diplomat stated on Monday, responding to remarks from London regarding the potential deployment of a Western military contingent in Ukraine following a ceasefire agreement, as reported by Tass.

“In this context, we urge London to abandon reckless and ill-considered geopolitical maneuvers and, at the very least, to avoid interfering with the diligent work of Russian and US negotiators,” Zakharova emphasized.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump agreed during a phone conversation to maintain close communication regarding urgent matters, according to Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov during a briefing.

“Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have agreed to keep in close contact concerning the Ukraine crisis and other significant issues on the international and bilateral agenda,” Ushakov remarked.

Putin expressed gratitude to Trump for the hospitality extended during his recent visit to Alaska and acknowledged the progress made at the summit, Ushakov noted.

Trump announced on Monday via the Truth Social platform that he has begun organizing a meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky. Following this bilateral meeting, he mentioned plans to pursue a trilateral meeting.

During a news conference, Zelensky stated he is open to “any format” for a meeting with the Russian President.

Zelensky also indicated that discussions included plans for Ukraine to acquire $90 billion in American weaponry through European funding, as part of the country’s security assurances.

Another component of these assurances would involve Ukraine producing drones, some of which would be procured by the US. This aspect remains under discussion, with no formal agreement reached yet.

The formalization of this agreement is expected within the next week to ten days, he said.

Zelensky also mentioned a comprehensive discussion with Trump regarding a map displayed in the Oval Office that illustrated territories in Ukraine seized by Russia.

However, NATO Chief Mark Rutte stated that redrawing Ukrainian borders was not a topic of discussion, as leaders concurred that this is a matter for Zelensky to address at a potential trilateral meeting involving Russia.
