Norwegian Court Rejects Parole Request from Mass Murderer Breivik

Oslo, Dec 5 (NationPress) A Norwegian court has rejected the parole request of mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik.

The Ringerike, Asker and Baerum District Court concluded that Breivik would not be granted probation from prison. The court determined that the requirements for probation were not satisfied, leading to the dismissal of the release request. The decision was unanimous, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

"I have communicated with Breivik, and it seems he intends to appeal," stated Breivik's attorney, Oystein Storrvik, in an interview with the Norwegian news agency NTB.

Breivik appeared in court on November 19 to argue for his release after spending over 13 years in prison.

This marks the second time that Breivik's request for parole has been denied, following a previous rejection in 2022.

Earlier this year, the Oslo District Court ruled against Breivik in a lawsuit he filed that challenged the conditions of his imprisonment.

On July 22, 2011, Breivik perpetrated one of Norway's most catastrophic attacks, starting with a car bomb explosion outside the government headquarters in Oslo that resulted in the deaths of eight individuals. He then opened fire at a youth summer camp organized by the ruling Labor Party on Utoya Island, claiming the lives of 69 people, the majority of whom were teenagers.

In 2012, the Oslo District Court sentenced Breivik to 21 years in prison, the maximum penalty under Norwegian law, with the possibility of extension. This verdict marked a legal conclusion to one of the darkest chapters in the nation's history.
