Sanaa, Jan 10 (NationPress) The Israeli armed forces, in collaboration with a US-British naval coalition, initiated a significant number of airstrikes targeting Yemen's capital Sanaa, the northern province of Amran, and the crucial port city of Hodeidah on Friday, according to reports from the Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV.
The broadcast highlighted that certain strikes were aimed at the vicinity of Al Sabeen Square in central Sanaa, an area known for its weekly Houthi rallies every Friday, demonstrating support for Houthi operations against Israel and their impact on “Israeli-linked” maritime activities in the Red Sea.
Furthermore, the airstrikes affected the Hezyaz power station located south of Sanaa, as stated by al-Masirah TV, which also noted that an additional 12 airstrikes targeted the Harf Sufyan district in Amran province.
Local residents shared on social media that the strikes were aimed at weapon storage sites near Al Sabeen Square and military installations in Harf Sufyan, including arms depots and a launch pad.
The Houthi channel mentioned that over six airstrikes were directed at Hodeidah and Ras Issa ports.
While the US-British coalition has not responded to the Houthi claims, the Israeli military confirmed in a statement that its aircraft had targeted Houthi positions along the western coast of Yemen and within its interior, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have been engaging in rocket and drone strikes against Israel, disrupting “Israeli-linked” shipping routes in the Red Sea as a show of solidarity with the Palestinians amid ongoing tensions with Israelis.
In retaliation, Israel has conducted multiple rounds of air assaults against Houthi targets. Additionally, the US-led naval coalition stationed in the region has been executing regular airstrikes on Houthi sites since January 2024 as part of a coordinated effort to curb the armed group’s activities, which has led the Houthis to extend their attacks to include US naval vessels.
