Bangkok, April 4 (NationPress) The Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli, expressed on Friday that he had “extremely fruitful and positive” discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit held in Bangkok.
“I had a cordial meeting with my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. Our conversation was extremely fruitful and positive. I express my pleasure at this cordial meeting,” PM Oli shared on X.
Nepal is recognized as a priority partner of India under the 'Neighbourhood First' policy, and Friday's discussion upheld the ongoing tradition of high-level exchanges between the two nations, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepen the multifaceted bilateral partnership.
“Had a productive meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Bangkok. India attaches immense priority to relations with Nepal. We discussed various aspects of India-Nepal friendship, particularly in fields such as energy, connectivity, culture, and digital technology. We also reviewed some of the key positive outcomes from this year's BIMSTEC Summit, especially in disaster management and maritime transport,” PM Modi noted on X following the meeting.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) indicated that both leaders were pleased with the advancements in enhancing physical and digital connectivity, people-to-people linkages, and energy cooperation.
Previously, both leaders had met during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last year.
“We hope this meeting in Bangkok will set the stage for Oli's anticipated official bilateral visit to India,” a foreign ministry official from Nepal was quoted as saying prior to the meeting.
India and Nepal share deep-rooted civilizational and cultural connections, highlighted by the robust people-to-people relations. India stands as Nepal's largest developmental donor, with a significant portion of its aid directed towards substantial infrastructure projects under grants, essential for the swift development of Nepal in critical sectors such as health, education, and connectivity.
