New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) Tragically, two Indian nationals lost their lives and many others sustained injuries in a recent attack in Sohar, Oman, amidst the ongoing unrest in West Asia, as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal conveyed via a post on X that the Indian mission in Oman is actively liaising with local authorities and the employer company, providing necessary support to those impacted.
“We mourn the loss of two Indian nationals today due to the attack in Sohar, Oman, linked to the continuing conflict in West Asia. Additionally, several other Indian citizens have been injured. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who passed, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured,” Jaiswal stated.
Furthermore, he noted that the Indian embassy in Oman is diligently monitoring the evolving situation and extending all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
“Our Mission in Oman maintains communication with local authorities and the employer company, ensuring that all possible assistance is provided,” the MEA spokesperson affirmed.
This incident occurs during a period of heightened security concerns in various regions of West Asia, where ongoing conflicts have raised alarms about the safety of foreign nationals employed in the area.
Sohar, recognized as an industrial port city in Oman, is home to numerous industrial establishments and has a substantial expatriate workforce, including many Indian nationals working across diverse sectors.

Earlier on Friday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conducted yet another telephonic discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, focusing on bilateral cooperation and pertinent matters regarding BRICS, where India is the current chair and Iran is a member.
This conversation marked the fourth interaction between the two ministers amidst the escalating crisis involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
The dialogue followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's discussion with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday night, aimed at reviewing the critical situation unfolding in the West Asian region.
On social media platform X, EAM Jaishankar remarked: "Had another conversation with Iranian FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi yesterday night. Discussed bilateral matters as well as BRICS-related issues."
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi updated EAM Jaishankar on the recent situation stemming from the “acts of aggression and atrocities” perpetrated by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, alongside the implications for regional and global stability and security.
