One Dead, Two Injured in Israeli Airstrike on Lebanese Border Town

Beirut, Dec 13 (NationPress) An Israeli airstrike struck Khiam town in southeastern Lebanon following the deployment of the Lebanese army in the region, leading to the death of one individual and injuries to two others.
The Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the assault, labeling it as Israel's treachery that violates all commitments under the current ceasefire agreement. This situation necessitates intervention from the US and France, the sponsors of the ceasefire, to mitigate Israeli aggression, according to a statement from Mikati's office, as reported by Xinhua news agency citing the Lebanon National News Agency (NNA).
The Prime Minister also attributed the persistent Israeli violations to a committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement, urging immediate action from the committee to address such infringements and prevent future occurrences, as stated in the release.
As per the NNA, the Lebanese army's Engineering Regiment entered Khiam on Thursday with three bulldozers, multiple troop carriers, and around ten ambulances.
After confirming the area was clear of explosives, unexploded ordnance, and other dangerous devices, the regiment commenced clearing rubble and opening previously identified roads in cooperation with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.
The ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on November 27, is intended to put an end to over 14 months of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
The conditions of the ceasefire mandate Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory within 60 days, while the Lebanese army is tasked with maintaining security along the border and in the south to prevent any armed presence.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces have continued to carry out strikes in Lebanon, resulting in casualties.
