Jerusalem, Feb 26 (NationPress) In a significant meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israel's President Isaac Herzog discussed strategies to bolster collaboration in vital areas such as education, start-ups, innovation, technology, and connectivity.
During the meeting, PM Modi participated in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative by planting a tree in the Presidential Gardens, while also inviting President Herzog to visit India soon.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X, "Today, PM Narendra Modi met with President Isaac Herzog of Israel. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for Herzog’s unwavering support in enhancing the unique India-Israel partnership. Both leaders evaluated potential avenues for advancing cooperation in education, start-ups, innovation, technology, and connectivity."
In a warm gesture, Herzog shared a video on X earlier in the day, highlighting the preparations for PM Modi's arrival. He wrote, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of Israel welcome you with open arms. I look forward to hosting you today in Jerusalem!"
Before meeting President Herzog, PM Modi paid a visit to the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Centre in Jerusalem, where he laid a wreath to honor Holocaust victims.
Accompanied by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan, PM Modi toured the Holocaust Memorial and Museum that commemorates the Holocaust's tragic history. The visit included an exploration of the Book of Names, a significant installation that memorializes 4.8 million Jewish victims, followed by a ceremonial tribute in the Hall of Remembrance. PM Modi also signed the guest book at Yad Vashem.
This visit marks PM Modi's second trip to Yad Vashem, with his first visit occurring in July 2017.
Currently, PM Modi is on a two-day State Visit to Israel, having been warmly received by Netanyahu in Tel Aviv on Wednesday. He also made history by addressing a Special Plenary of the Knesset in Jerusalem, marking the first instance of an Indian Prime Minister addressing the Israeli parliament.
Before PM Modi's arrival, President Herzog had expressed excitement about welcoming him, stating, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State of Israel, and its people eagerly anticipate your visit to Israel."
