Islamabad, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed its concerns regarding the government's lack of transparency after its leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken to an Islamabad hospital for a follow-up eye procedure on Tuesday, as reported by local media.

A medical professional at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) disclosed that PTI's founder, Imran Khan, was admitted to the hospital for a second administration of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection on February 24. The PIMS physician stated, "Before the procedure, a board of specialists assessed him, including a consultant cardiologist who conducted echocardiography and ECG (which came back normal), along with a consultant physician," as reported by Pakistan's prominent daily, Dawn.

The medical expert mentioned that Imran Khan received the second dose of the intravitreal anti-VEGF injection under microscopic guidance from a consultant ophthalmologist and a consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon from both PIMS and Al-Shifa Eye Hospital, following informed consent and adhering to established monitoring, precautionary measures, and protocols in the operating theatre.

In response to these developments, PTI took to X and declared, "The situation necessitates transparency, not secrecy." The party further noted that "clandestine actions only lead to more questions." They reiterated their request for Imran Khan to be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for independent and transparent medical treatment.

Additionally, PTI shared a video that depicted a convoy traveling on the road at night, where an individual could be heard mentioning that vehicles were "returning from PIMS," as reported by Dawn.

On X, PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan remarked, "At 2 am today, I received a message stating that Khan sahib was brought to PIMS for an injection." He expressed that he had not been informed of this in advance.

In a post on X, he reiterated, "Our demand remains the same: a comprehensive evaluation and treatment of Khan sahib at Shifa International Hospital in the presence of his personal doctors and family members."

Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khanum, questioned why the family was not informed about Imran Khan's return to the hospital. She emphasized their distrust in the diagnoses and test results provided by government medical facilities.

In a post on X, she stated, "We learned from the news that Imran Khan was taken to PIMS again in the middle of the night, presumably for his second eye injection. When the law mandates that the family be notified before any medical procedure on a prisoner, why was the family not informed? We do not trust the diagnoses or test reports from government medical facilities. There are already reports from PIMS indicating that doctors are being threatened with severe consequences if any information about Imran Khan is leaked."

She called for Imran Khan to be treated at Shifa International Hospital by specialists under the supervision of his personal doctors and in the presence of his family. She further stated that PIMS is not equipped to handle the condition that has developed in Imran Khan's eyes.

"What are they concealing? Our family dismisses their reports, even if they issue these manipulated reports to the public. We stand firm in our demand that Imran Khan be evaluated and treated at Shifa International (Islamabad) by specialists, under the supervision of Imran Khan’s personal doctors and with family present. PIMS (government hospital) is not equipped to treat anyone for the alleged condition that has arisen in Imran Khan’s eye. The actions of this government are criminal, and they will be held accountable for every violation and crime against Imran Khan," Aleema Khanum posted on X.

Reports regarding Imran Khan's eye condition, diagnosed as right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), first emerged in January. His initial medical procedure, conducted on January 24, was disclosed by the government five days later.

Since then, the opposition has accused the government of failing to provide transparency in this matter, not ensuring adequate treatment for Imran Khan, and preventing him from consulting his personal physicians. The government has denied these allegations.

Point of View

The PTI's demand for transparency reflects a broader concern about accountability in government actions, especially concerning prominent political figures like Imran Khan. The ongoing situation highlights the need for clarity in medical treatments, particularly in politically sensitive cases, to maintain public trust and avoid speculation.
