Russian Diplomat Cautions on Nuclear Threats in Ukraine

Moscow, December 6 (NationPress) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has cautioned about the risks of nuclear escalation in Ukraine, while reiterating that his nation is open to discussions.
In a video interview released on Friday by American journalist Tucker Carlson on X, Lavrov addressed Russia-US relations, the Ukraine crisis, and the wider geopolitical situation.
Lavrov voiced serious concerns regarding the rhetoric from certain officials within the Pentagon and NATO regarding possible limited nuclear strikes against Russia, without involving US territories in nuclear confrontations, stressing that such actions could lead to uncontrollable escalation, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
According to Lavrov, Russia's military doctrine emphasizes the necessity of avoiding nuclear warfare, referencing the Joint Statement made by the leaders of the five Nuclear-Weapon States in January 2022, which affirmed that 'a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.'
He also reiterated Russia's enduring opposition to NATO's expansion eastward, accusing the West of disregarding Russia's security concerns.
Lavrov called on US policymakers to move away from the so-called 'rules-based order' that favors US supremacy over multilateral cooperation.
He concluded by asserting that Russia remains open to dialogue on equitable terms.
