Syrian Leader Approves 50% Salary Increase for Military Amid Ongoing Conflict

Damascus, Dec 5 (NationPress) Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has announced a decree that provides a 50% salary increase for military personnel as government forces confront significant battles against rebel factions across multiple fronts in northern and central Syria.

The decree, released on Wednesday, states that this pay raise will be applicable to all military staff and will be added to their base salaries starting from the date of the decree's release.

This salary enhancement is occurring as Syrian government troops ramp up their operations against rebel forces in crucial areas, such as Hama, Aleppo, and Idlib provinces.

Since last week, rebel factions have intensified their assaults in northern Syria, successfully seizing control of Aleppo, which is the second-largest city in Syria.

On Tuesday, the Syrian military reported that it had dispatched substantial reinforcements to the central province of Hama to strengthen front-line defenses as rebel groups advance in western-central Syria.

On December 20, 2023, al-Assad made another decision to increase the air allowance percentage for pilot officers operating military aircraft.

This percentage rose from 4% to 35% of the fixed monthly salary as per the new decision.

These announced increases by al-Assad are part of his strategy to reorganize the military structure following 13 years of military operations.

Last year, the Syrian regime put forth a series of decisions regarding the military structure, as Major General Ahmed Suleiman, the Director of the General Administration in the Ministry of Defence of the regime, indicated in a discussion with Alikhbaria Syria that these measures were aimed at creating a 'modern, advanced professional army', as directed by Bashar al-Assad.
