Tragic Bus Accident in Norway Claims Three Lives and Leaves Four Injured

Oslo, Dec 27 (NationPress) Three individuals lost their lives and four others were seriously injured after a long-distance bus went off the highway and submerged in a lake in Hadsel, located in northern Norway, as reported by local authorities.
The bus, which was transporting over 50 passengers, was en route from Narvik to Solvaer when it overturned in Hadsel, close to Raftsundet, within the renowned Lofoten archipelago, a popular tourist area in northern Norway.
Emergency personnel encountered significant challenges at the scene, particularly due to harsh weather conditions that obstructed helicopter rescue operations, as noted by Xinhua news agency.
"The bus is partially submerged. We have confirmed three fatalities and four individuals with serious injuries," stated Bent Are Eilertsen, chief of staff at the Nordland Police District. "Emergency responders have successfully evacuated all passengers from the bus."
The seriously injured were airlifted to a medical facility, while others were accommodated in nearby shelters, including a school.
Officials verified that the passengers hailed from eight different countries, including Norway, India, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands, France, and South Sudan.
The Chinese Embassy in Norway confirmed that approximately 20 Chinese tourists were on board, with five sustaining minor injuries. The embassy stated it is in communication with these tourists and will offer the necessary assistance to ensure their safe return.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of life. "I believe everyone in Norway is touched by the news from Hadsel," he told national broadcaster NRK, encouraging the nation to support "those who are profoundly affected by this incident."
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, and further details are anticipated.
