Vasundhara Raje Visits Families of Injured from Jaipur LPG Tanker Explosion

Jaipur, Dec 23 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited SMS Hospital in Jaipur on Monday to assess the well-being of those injured in the Jaipur LPG tanker explosion.

Following medical guidelines and to mitigate the risk of infection for the patients, she opted not to enter the ICU of the Burn Unit. Instead, she met the families of the injured in the office of Superintendent Sushil Bhati.

Lok Sabha member from Jaipur, Manju Sharma, accompanied her during the visit.

Raje expressed her compassion towards the loved ones of the injured victims and pledged her support.

After her meetings with the families, she conveyed her sentiments and also shared on X, “I wish to extend my condolences to the families who have lost their members. It was a terrible accident. The doctors are providing excellent care for everyone...”

She emphasized that this was a humanitarian concern rather than a political issue.

At least 12 individuals tragically lost their lives in a devastating series of events that transpired on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway early on December 20, when a truck collided with an LPG tanker making a U-turn, resulting in a fireball that engulfed nearly 34 vehicles. Numerous others were injured, with some facing life-threatening burn injuries.

“The tanker heading towards Jaipur was coming from Ajmer and attempted to take a U-turn to proceed towards Agra Road,” explained Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph. “While executing the turn, an Ajmer-bound truck traveling from Jaipur unexpectedly struck it from behind. This collision led to a gas leak, which ignited almost instantly. The rest of the incident unfolded within 10 to 15 minutes.” Over 30 individuals are currently receiving treatment for burn injuries at SMS Hospital, with many on ventilators and having sustained burns exceeding 60 percent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The Rajasthan government also declared financial support of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those who were injured.
