Jaipur, Oct 8 (NationPress) - A tragic incident occurred on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Tuesday night when a truck loaded with LPG cylinders ignited after colliding with a tanker, leading to the devastating loss of one life, according to police reports.
The Chief Minister, Bhajanlal Sharma, expressed deep sorrow over the fire incident, describing it as profoundly tragic and assuring all necessary support for those impacted.
In his late-night post on X, he stated, "This fire incident involving a gas cylinder truck on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway, particularly in the Mozmabad police station area of rural Jaipur, is extremely tragic."
The CM added that both fire brigade and disaster management teams were actively involved in rescue operations, emphasizing that the district administration was instructed to provide adequate medical care for the injured and assist those affected. "My prayers are with those impacted during this heartbreaking incident," he noted.
On Tuesday night, a chemical tanker collided with a truck carrying LPG cylinders near Mokhampura in the Dudu area of Jaipur. The collision ignited a massive fire in the tanker’s cabin, filled with flammable chemicals, which led to a series of powerful explosions as the gas cylinders ignited. Over 100 cylinders exploded, with some landing in fields up to 500 meters away.
These deafening blasts were reportedly heard as far as 10 kilometers away, continuing intermittently for almost two hours.
Sadly, one individual was burned alive in the incident.
More than a dozen fire engines worked tirelessly for over three hours to extinguish the flames.
The truck was transporting approximately 330 cylinders during the collision.
An eyewitness reported that the tanker driver appeared to lose control upon seeing an RTO vehicle, swerving towards a roadside dhaba and crashing into the parked gas truck.
The fire also engulfed five nearby vehicles.
As a result, traffic on both sides of the highway was halted, causing significant disruption. The highway was reopened around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday after being closed for over six hours. The truck carrying LPG cylinders had been parked near the Sawarda culvert when the speeding chemical tanker collided with it.
The immediate fire led to rapid explosions, causing chaos and panic in the vicinity.
Truck driver Shahrukh, who survived, recounted, "My truck was completely destroyed in the fire. The chemical tanker driver spotted the RTO vehicle and swerved towards the dhaba, colliding with my truck." Following the accident, police diverted traffic to alleviate congestion on the busy Jaipur–Ajmer route. Vehicles from Kishangarh to Jaipur were rerouted via Rupangarh, while those traveling from Jaipur to Ajmer were diverted through the 200-foot bypass to Tonk Road.
After being closed since 10 p.m. Tuesday, the highway was finally reopened in both directions by the Jaipur District Collector at around 4:30 a.m. The body of the individual who was burned alive was transferred to SMS Hospital.
According to Dr. Mrinal Joshi, Superintendent of SMS Hospital, the identity of the deceased will be confirmed only after conducting a FSL-DNA test.
