An official from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in Agartala revealed that Saha and Amit Shah deliberated on the development roadmap and evaluated the relief measures implemented after the floods.
In a post on the platform X, the Chief Minister mentioned: “Had a fruitful meeting with Hon'ble Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah ji in New Delhi. We reviewed Tripura’s development strategy and assessed relief measures following the Tripura floods. I am grateful for his invaluable insights and ongoing support.”
Earlier in the week, Tripura's Chief Minister indicated that he is in communication with the Central government regarding post-flood assistance, and funds will be released upon the completion of necessary official protocols.
While speaking at the Flood Relief and Management Programme held at Rabindra Bhavan, Saha noted that last year's catastrophic flood in August impacted around 17 lakh individuals, with approximately four lakh being relocated to safety and 889 relief camps established by the government.
As a result of the floods and landslides, at least 38 lives were lost, and 58,687 houses suffered damage. The state incurred losses estimated at around Rs 15,000 crore, he reported.
Saha acknowledged the tremendous support from all sections of society, who contributed generously to the Chief Minister's relief fund, emphasizing the significance of assisting those in need during challenging times. He remarked that Tripura had never faced such a disaster before.
The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude for the efforts of various volunteer organizations and groups that stepped up during the crisis. He highlighted that the ‘Abhoy Mission’ (an NGO) and its affiliates aided about 5,600 families affected by the floods.
“The Central government has extended all possible support to manage the flood crisis. Various agencies, including the Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF, collaborated to alleviate the situation. During these trying times, contributions to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund were overwhelming, setting a precedent for future efforts. Individuals across all demographics, including children, students, employees, pensioners, businesspeople, clubs, and social organizations, offered their assistance,” he noted.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister stated that during the recent floods, six of the state's major rivers surpassed their danger levels, with the exception of the Juri River.
“Among the eight districts, Gomati, South, and Sepahijala were the hardest hit, while other districts experienced varying degrees of damage,” he added, acknowledging the significant support received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during this crisis.
An Inter-Ministerial Central Team visited Tripura to assess the damages across various districts. The Chief Minister announced that a total of Rs 564 crore, including state funds, has been allocated to tackle the aftermath of the disaster.
