Kabul, Nov 2 (NationPress) Tragically, three individuals, among them a woman, lost their lives while five others, including four children and another woman, sustained injuries when a truck flipped over in Helmand province, located in southern Afghanistan, as reported by local officials.

The incident took place as the truck was carrying a family during their relocation, overturning due to reckless driving in the vicinity of Police District 10, near the city of Lashkar Gah, which is the provincial capital. This information was detailed in a statement from the provincial department of information and culture on Saturday, according to Xinhua News Agency.

In a separate event earlier, three lives were claimed and 18 more were injured in a crash involving a tractor and two passenger vehicles in eastern Laghman province on Wednesday.

Road accidents result in thousands of fatalities every year in Afghanistan, predominantly due to reckless driving, substandard road conditions, speeding, overloading, congested routes, and inadequate traffic signage.

On October 30, the provincial police office reported that three individuals had perished, and 18 others were injured in a collision involving a tractor and two passenger vehicles in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province.

The incident occurred in the Surkhakan area along the highway linking the capital Kabul to eastern Nangarhar province on October 29, resulting in the death of three commuters, including a woman and a child, and injuring 18 others, many of whom were critically hurt, as per the statement.

Reckless driving was identified as the main factor contributing to the crash.

In the past week, at least 11 individuals have died, and nearly 40 have been injured in five distinct road accidents across the eastern provinces of Laghman, Khost, and Ghazni, as well as in the northern regions of Badakhshan and Balkh.

Road traffic accidents persist as a major cause of unintentional deaths in the war-affected nation of Afghanistan, exacerbated by reckless driving, congested roads, and insufficient traffic signage on dilapidated highways.

On September 26, provincial police indicated that one commuter lost his life and 11 others were injured in a head-on collision involving two passenger vehicles in northern Afghanistan's Jawzjan province.

This collision transpired between two cars in the Qarabuyen Olya area, situated along the highway connecting Jawzjan to the neighboring Balkh province, resulting in one fatality and 11 injuries, as stated in a police report.

Reckless driving was blamed for this tragic incident, with the injured being quickly transported to a nearby health facility, where many remain in critical condition.

On September 25, one traveler lost his life and three were injured when their vehicle overturned in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province, as stated by the provincial police.

The report attributed the deadly accident to reckless driving, noting that it occurred in the Kakakh region along the highway that connects the capital Kabul to eastern Nangarhar province, leading to one passenger's immediate death and injuries to three others.
