Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, April 19 (NationPress) Former President Donald Trump referred to Israel as a “remarkable ally of the United States” and commended the nation for its “bravery” and “faithfulness” amidst the intensifying conflict with Iran.
In a recent post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump emphasized that Israel has consistently supported the US during challenging times, stating, “unlike others,” the nation remains steadfast in its efforts to prevail.
“Regardless of personal opinions on Israel, they have demonstrated their worth as a vital ally to the United States. They are brave, tenacious, loyal, and intelligent. Unlike others who have shown their true nature during moments of adversity, Israel fights vigorously and knows how to achieve victory!” Trump declared.
These comments arrived shortly after the US President cautioned Israel against conducting airstrikes in Lebanon, asserting, “Enough is enough.”
Simultaneously, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) stated its commitment to maintaining oversight of the traffic in the Strait of Hormuz until a definitive cessation of hostilities and enduring peace is established in the region.
This announcement, relayed by Iranian media, followed an earlier declaration from Iran's main military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, regarding the reinstatement of rigorous control over the Strait of Hormuz, citing the ongoing US naval blockade against Iran.
The SNSC articulated that it would regulate the strait by requiring vessel information, granting passage permits, imposing fees for security and environmental services, and directing maritime traffic according to its standards and wartime regulations, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
“When adversaries attempt to disrupt vessel traffic through the strait and resort to tactics such as enforcing a naval blockade, it will be perceived as violations of the current two-week ceasefire. The country will impede any conditional or limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” it added.
The SNSC pointed out that a significant portion of the equipment supporting US bases in West Asia is transported via the Strait of Hormuz, which it claims poses a threat to Iranian and regional security.
