Washington, Feb 6 (NationPress) - US President Donald Trump has officially launched TrumpRx.gov, a groundbreaking federal platform that promises substantial discounts on a variety of widely used prescription medications. He described this initiative as the most significant reduction in drug costs in US history, marking a pivotal move to end the practice of Americans subsidizing lower prices for other countries.

“This is a very big deal,” Trump stated during a White House event. “People are going to save a lot of money and be healthy.” Starting now, consumers can visit the website to obtain discounts on their prescriptions via coupons that can be redeemed at local pharmacies.

The initiative adopts a “most favored nation” pricing model, ensuring that the US pays the lowest price for drugs compared to any other nation. “We’re taking the lowest price paid for drugs; we will pay equal to whatever the lowest price anywhere in the world,” he emphasized. “That’s the price that you’re going to be paying.”

Trump argued that Americans have historically faced higher medication costs than those in other nations. “The American people were effectively subsidizing the cost of drugs for the entire world, and it’s not going to happen any longer,” he asserted.

According to the President, 16 of the 17 largest pharmaceutical companies have committed to this pricing strategy, with the last one expected to join soon. These agreements also stipulate that new medications released in the US must be available at the lowest global price.

Trump linked these pricing agreements to the imposition of tariffs, warning other countries that drug prices would increase unless they accepted lower prices for the US. “Drug prices in other nations will go up by doing this,” he warned. “They had to agree, and the reason they agreed is I used tariffs.”

Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, confirmed that these discounts are now accessible to consumers. “Today, you can now get access to these steeply discounted prices,” Oz stated, encouraging Americans to utilize the site before purchasing medications. “One in three Americans are turned away from the drugstore; they can’t afford the drugs. No more.”

Joe Gebbia, US Chief Design Officer, demonstrated how TrumpRx.gov functions, showing users how to search for a medication, download a coupon, and redeem it at participating pharmacies or specialty mail-order providers. The site launches with over 40 medications, with more to be added regularly.

The launch event also featured a military spouse who shared how lower prices for fertility medications could impact their ability to continue IVF treatment. “For families like ours, it can mean the difference between being able to continue treatment or having no choice but to stop,” she noted.

Trump indicated that this initiative would stimulate domestic investment, with pharmaceutical companies pledging to build manufacturing facilities in the US. He credited the tariffs for persuading firms to relocate production, asserting that this strategy would create jobs and enhance national security.

A fact sheet from the White House indicated that TrumpRx.gov will initially provide discounted medications from companies like AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer, with more manufacturers anticipated to join. Access to these discounts is available through printable or digital coupons, depending on the drug and manufacturer.

Trump signed an executive order on May 12, 2025, directing agencies to pursue most favored nation pricing, followed by communications to drug manufacturers and multiple pricing agreements announced since September 2025. On January 15, 2026, Trump also urged Congress to pass what he labeled “The Great Healthcare Plan,” which would solidify the pricing initiative and enhance transparency.
