Tunisia Breaks Up Drug Trafficking Operation, Three Arrested

Tunis, Dec 28 (NationPress) The security forces of Tunisia have successfully dismantled a drug trafficking operation in the northwestern province of Siliana, leading to the arrest of three suspects, according to a statement from the Tunisian National Guard on their Facebook page.

Among those detained is a woman; however, the specific timing of the operation and the identities of the individuals have not been disclosed.

The National Guard units focused their efforts on a criminal network located in the town of Rouhia, Siliana, where they seized a quantity of narcotic pills, sharp tools, and a sum of cash during the operation.

Following a review of the case, public prosecution officials have authorized the detention of the suspects as investigations continue, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

In a prior operation on December 26, security forces also dismantled a drug trafficking network operating in the capital, Tunis, where they confiscated 3.5 kg of cocaine.

The National Guard units targeted this operation in the Ain Zaghouan neighborhood, although further details on the operation or the number of arrests have not been provided.

This operation was prompted by investigations that led to the discovery of an unregistered vehicle parked outside a residence in Tunis. Inside this vehicle, authorities found 3.5 kg of cocaine.

Earlier in December, security units similarly dismantled a drug trafficking operation in the Grand Tunis area, the largest metropolitan region in Tunisia, where 3 kg of cocaine was seized.

In two distinct operations, the security units arrested a total of five individuals and seized cocaine, various quantities of narcotic pills, cash, jewelry, and three vehicles, as reported by the National Guard.

In a separate operation occurring on December 1, forces dismantled two drug trafficking networks in the provinces of Ben Arous and Ariana, located near the capital Tunis, according to Tunisian National Radio.

The Tunisian government is taking a firm stand against drug trafficking, having arrested hundreds of suspects in recent nationwide operations.
