Tunis, Feb 24 (NationPress) Tunisian security forces have successfully dismantled a drug trafficking network that was operating in the capital, Tunis, leading to the seizure of 20 plaques of cannabis, as reported by the Tunisian National Guard on its Facebook page.
In a statement released on Sunday, it was noted, “As part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking, National Guard units in Ben Arous conducted a successful operation in Hay Hlal, dismantling a network that spanned multiple provinces.
The operation resulted in the arrest of three key suspects, and investigations are currently underway, according to Xinhua news agency.
Previously, in December 2024, Tunisian security forces took down a drug trafficking network in the northwestern province of Siliana, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including a woman. The specifics of the operation's timing and the identities of the suspects were not disclosed.
During this action, National Guard units targeted the criminal network in Rouhia, Siliana, where they seized a quantity of narcotic pills, sharp tools, and cash.
Following the case review, public prosecution approved their detention while investigations continue.
On December 26, 2024, another operation in Tunis resulted in the dismantling of a drug trafficking network as well, with authorities seizing 3.5 kg of cocaine.
Responding to the increasing challenges posed by the production and trafficking of illicit substances, the Tunisian government has intensified its efforts against drug trafficking in recent years.
