Turkey to Aid Syria in Revamping Energy and Transport Systems

Ankara, Dec 25 (NationPress) Turkey revealed intentions to aid Syria in the reconstruction of vital energy and transportation systems.

A delegation from the energy ministry is set to visit Syria promptly to evaluate the electricity and energy frameworks and suggest solutions for the energy crisis, as quoted by the semi-official Anadolu Agency from Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

In parallel, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu stated that Turkey intends to work on rehabilitating Syria's transportation hubs, starting with the restoration of airports in Damascus and Aleppo, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

During a session organized by the Anadolu Publishers Federation on Tuesday, Uraloglu mentioned that a team has been dispatched to Syria to assess the airports, which have been found to be in severe disrepair.

Runways have deteriorated, and critical systems like radar and X-ray machines are lacking, he noted, unveiling plans for restoring these facilities alongside sections of the historic Hejaz Railway in Syria.

This announcement came after remarks from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday during a meeting with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Commander Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus, where he pledged Turkey's support in reconstructing Syria's infrastructure, reforming its institutions, and facilitating the return of displaced Syrians.

Earlier on the same day, Ahmed al-Sharaa and visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan engaged in discussions, during which both parties committed to enhancing bilateral relations.

At a joint press conference following their discussions, Fidan expressed hope for a brighter future for Syria and reiterated Turkey's commitment to aiding in the reconstruction of Syria's infrastructure, reforming its institutions, and the return of displaced Syrians.

Restoring stability in Syria is vital for the millions of refugees, Fidan emphasized, urging for a consensus within Syria and a framework to safeguard minorities while incorporating all faiths and ethnicities in the nation.
