Sanaa, March 23 (NationPress) The US naval forces executed three strikes on the Hodeidah airport located in the Yemeni Red Sea port city, along with five strikes in the Majzar district within Yemen's central province of Marib, as reported by media outlets.
Reports from the Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV did not specify details regarding casualties or damages resulting from the strikes, and there has been no response from the US authorities as of yet.
Since late 2014, the Hodeidah airport has been closed to civilian air traffic following the seizure of control by the Houthi group over several northern cities, including the vital city of Hodeidah. The airport has also faced multiple US airstrikes in the past, as indicated by Xinhua news agency.
Earlier on Saturday, the Houthis claimed to have conducted a sixth attack on US naval forces in the northern Red Sea since March 15, launching multiple drones at warships accompanying the USS Harry S. Truman.
Additionally, the Houthis reported a ballistic missile strike aimed at Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, which the Israeli military confirmed was intercepted late on Friday.
The Houthis, who dominate much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, have been engaged in conflict with the internationally recognized government since 2014.
Relations between the Houthis and the US military have become increasingly tense following new US airstrikes on Yemen that commenced on March 15.
These strikes came in response to Houthi threats to resume assaults on Israeli targets unless humanitarian aid is permitted into Gaza.
The US military has reinstated air operations against Houthi targets since Saturday, asserting that its campaign aims to safeguard international shipping. This latest series of US airstrikes has reportedly resulted in numerous fatalities, according to health authorities aligned with the Houthis.
The Houthi rebel faction governs a significant portion of Yemen, including the strategic port of Hodeidah, amid a civil war that erupted in 2014.
US President Donald Trump cautioned the Houthis on Saturday to halt their attacks or face severe repercussions, stating, “Hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Yemen’s Houthi group mentioned that they targeted the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea for the fourth time within a 72-hour window.
In a statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea indicated that the operation was executed using cruise missiles and drones, claiming success in repelling a “hostile US air attack.”
