Washington, April 25 (NationPress) Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence (DNI), expressed on Friday that the United States stands firmly behind India's efforts to track down the individuals responsible for the devastating Islamist terrorist attack in Pahalgam that occurred earlier this week.
The high-ranking US official joins numerous American leaders and officials in condemning the attack, with support beginning from President Donald Trump, who reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi just hours after the brutal terror attack on Tuesday.
"We are united with India following the devastating Islamist terrorist attack that targeted and claimed the lives of 26 Hindus in Pahalgam," Gabbard posted on X. "My thoughts and deepest condolences are with those who grieved a loss, PM Narendra Modi, and every citizen of India. We stand with you and support your efforts to find those accountable for this atrocious attack."
Gabbard's call to hunt down the assailants comes as India intensifies its response to the terrorist act, highlighting its evident cross-border connections to Pakistan. India has halted the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, mandated the departure of Pakistani diplomats, reduced personnel at missions, and closed the land-border crossing at Wagah.
"India will identify, pursue, and bring to justice every terrorist and their supporters," declared Prime Minister Modi. "We will chase them to the ends of the Earth. The spirit of India will never be diminished by terrorism," he asserted.
The Resistance Front, a faction linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has reportedly taken responsibility for this heinous attack.
Gabbard has maintained a long-standing connection with India, dating back to her tenure in the US House of Representatives, where she served multiple terms as a Democrat.
She co-chaired the bipartisan India Caucus and developed a strong rapport with the Modi administration. Gabbard made history by being the first member of President Trump's cabinet in the second term to visit India, in March, where she met with Prime Minister Modi and delivered keynote remarks at the Raisina Dialogue regarding security affairs.
